From Munich, you can fly to Canada with Lufthansa in a new business class. But the cabin and the seats are not made by Lufthansa itself.
The Airbus A350-900 registered D-AIVC was christened Munich on Friday April 29 in Munich. Lufthansa is now sending the newly leased aircraft to Avolon from the Bavarian hub to Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver in Canada – with a product new to the German airline on board.
“With a significantly improved business class on board, this aircraft also marks the start of one of the largest product upgrades in Lufthansa’s history,” said Lufthansa CEO Carsten Spohr at the christening of the aircraft. plane. Lufthansa explains in a press release: “All seats have direct aisle access, can be quickly and easily converted into a two-metre long bed and offer more storage space. In addition, travelers have significantly more shoulder space.
However, this is not Lufthansa’s new business class, which the airline has long expected. D-AIVC and three other A350-900s leased by Lufthansa will continue to have the cabin that former operator Philippine Airlines used on the aircraft.
Spohr had already declared in November 2021 that nothing would change in the configuration: 30 seats in Business Class, 24 in Premium Economy and 241 in Economy. In the cabin, only minimal design changes are made to create the Lufthansa touch and feel, according to the CEO. In addition, safety equipment is provided. “Everything else stays as is.” There is currently no money for a renovation.
“Business class is awesome,” Spohr said at the time. “It’s not as good as ours, which is coming in 2023, but better than ours today.” The passenger compartment is therefore a step towards more comfort. This includes, for example, direct aisle access from every seat.
This will not be the only intermediate step before the introduction of the brand new business travel class at Lufthansa. The first five Boeing 787s the German airline will receive are also said to have “upgraded business class”, but not yet the full new product.
