You can dream up your own stories for your children and tell them – or you can have them written by an artificial intelligence. Austrian Peter Rechter, who works full-time at cloud giant Oracle in Vienna, quickly set up the latter. He used the currently hugely popular ChatGPT AI tool as well as the Dall-E AI image (both from OpenAI) to create short stories for his platform. Technological fairy tales to create. Their goal: to show kids that they can’t just use technology as consumers, but that they can actively use it to conceive.
And so, in just a few days, funny stories about Anna and her code adventures, the boy Andy in the Metaverse or analogies with the real world in the form of a certain Jeffs in the Amazon or about Elon and his “Neuralink” were created. “The idea came to me through my daughter, who is only 17 months old. We want to integrate technology into education in a playful way as early as possible,” says Rechter on Trending Topics. “All fairy tale stories are created with ChatGPT’s AI.”
It happened pretty quickly – he would have had the project and content ready to go in 3 evenings. ChatGPT does not write children’s fairy tales completely automatically and at the touch of a button, it always needs human creativity and help. “You have to think about the plot, what information you want inside, and then direct the AI - for example, if you want to add details,” says Rechter. It would have taken her about 40 minutes per fairy tale, including translation.

“The goal is that parents can, in a playful way, bring the subject of technology closer to their children through fairy tales. Children should not only be brought up to be consumers of technology, but also taught to use it productively,” says the Austrian. He reportedly bought many children’s books, but none would live up to his claim of giving young people their first taste of the world of technology. That’s why he decided without further ado to implement the news with the help of AI.
In addition to the texts, he also had the images (see above) made by an AI, namely by Dall-E – he then built the website himself with a website builder. “I’m very interested in the technology, but I’m not a programmer. The technology can already be used by the average consumer. ChatGPT is just the tip of the iceberg, in two years there will be AIs creating other AIs,” he says. ChatGPT can still be used for free. “But I assume that will only be the case for a certain period of the beta phase.”
Now it’s about getting as many parents as possible interested in the idea and the stories. The project can have a learning effect not only for children, but also for adults – how you can now work with AI without any programming knowledge.
